CM/ECF Hardware and Software Recommendations

Hardware Minimum Requirements

Hardware Recommended

Operation speed 100 megahertz

1000 megahertz (most computers sold today range from 1.8 gigahertz to 2.4 gigahertz)

Memory 64 megabytes

Computers sold today usually have a minimum of 256 megabytes, however, we suggest that a system with 512 megabytes of RAM would be more efficient for a multi-tasking environment.

1 gigabyte of free hard disk space to be used for storage

We recommend that you allow for at least 10 gigabytes of hard disk storage (most computers sold today have hard disks with 20 or more gigabytes)

Internet connection with modem using a transfer rate of 28 kilobytes or higher

56 kilobytes recommended. A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) would be much better.

Internet Service Provider (ISP)

Many of you already have an ISP for your e-mail, newsgroups. Examples are AOL, MSN, Compuserve, Earthlink, etc.

Flatbed scanner

This is to be used for scanning of documents that need to be imaged and sent to the court.

Software Requirements

Software Recommendations

Operating system that supports a web browser, such as Windows, Linux, Macintosh and others.

We recommend that you use Windows. Our court, as most others, uses this system. Our help desk is well versed in versions 3.1 to 2000.

Web Browser - Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft's Internet Explorer

We recommend that you use the suggested versions. Other versions of these browsers have not been fully tested.

PDF compatible windows-based word processor like recent versions of WordPerfect and Microsoft Word.

All are fine.

Adobe Acrobat - to be used for conversion of scanned documents to Portable Document Format (PDF)

We also recommend the use of this tool for the purpose of viewing PDF documents.

Anti-virus software is not a requirement but is highly suggested. On our current system, we accept lists of creditors on floppy disk. This has resulted in the court receiving corrupt information.

Many of the documents available on this site are in Portable Document Format (PDF).
A free PDF reader can be downloaded from the Adobe website.
